Sysprogs Visualgdb

SysProgs VisualGDB is a fully-featured extension that works with Microsoft Visual Studio, which allows debugging embedded systems through Microsoft Visual Studio + J-Link + GDB. VisualGDB supports MSVS 2005-2013, running on Windows XP-7 x86 / x64. (MSVS Express Editions are not supported).

SysProgs VisualGDB utilizes GDB for embedded debugging and automatically uses the J-Link GDBServer. This lets you use J-Link out-of-the-box and automatically use the J-Link built-in flash loaders, which are highly optimized for flash programming. It also allows making use of the J-Link “unlimited number of breakpoints when debugging in a flash” feature.

SysProgs VisualGDB makes cross-platform development using Visual Studio easy and comfortable. It supports:

All you have to do is select your device from the list and start developing! VisualGDB can also easily import your existing code or debug code built elsewhere.

SysProgs VisualGDB can understand complex multi-line error messages from GCC, Keil, and IAR compilers. It will display template instantiations, include a stack for errors in header files, and other information that helps quickly determine what breaks the build.

You can swiftly switch back and forth between the error messages and a specific location in the build log, where SysProgs VisualGDB will highlight the most important messages and make all paths clickable.

SysProgs VisualGDB integrates the well-known CppUTest and GoogleTest frameworks in Visual Studio and provides an easy API to integrate custom frameworks. With just one click of a mouse, you can run/debug tests on the following:

  • Embedded ARM devices via JTAG/SWD

  • Linux machines and boards like Raspberry Pi
  • Mbed projects using the Greentea framework
